This season, Louis Vuitton whisks us off on a colour-packed, feel-good voyage. Punctuated with a multitude of details just a refined as spectacular, the Spring/Summer 2005 collection offers an ultra-feminine, fresh look for the upbeat woman of today.
The fashion show, held recently at Third Floor Restaurant, and was a display of the impeccable style of the luxury brand. At the unveiling of the collection, the fashion powerhouse outdid itself and even featured super model Ling Tan taking to the stage.
Showcasing their latest women and men's collection as well as a new line of bags and shoes, Louis Vuitton goes back in time to highlight styles from the heydays of the 1940s.
Gleaning its inspiration directly from the world of showbiz, the new season's look has a decidedly rich and sparkly feel, with a recurrent sequin motif incarnating this fun-filled, dream-like milieu to perfection.
The show started off with a smiling Ling parading out on stage in a maroon dress with a ballerina skirt with strips of sequins in the pattern of "V" teamed with a tailored top boasting puff sleeves, showing a delightfully full and incredibly feminine look.
The coat dress is yet another new creation to make an appearance at Louis Vuitton this season. Frequently sported over fine knitwear with the sleeves push up, it offers a modern slant on the collection's '40s feel. This style was shown as a model appeared in a red floral printed dress with a pink knitwear worn inside and carrying a cheery little cherry pink handbag.
The trousers make no appearance in the collection, moving over to make room for breeches and an ultra-sexy pair of shorts in monogrammed denim.
Skirts are gathered at the front, accentuating the hips to give a refined, overtly glamorous look (left) while the cocktail dress also takes the stage with pencil skirt ending just above the knee.
Embroidery, sequins, braids, pleats, fringing and frills are impressively injected into the entire collection. Materials such as silk, organza, taffeta and cashmere are married with the natural textures of cotton and linen giving the range a luxurious yet delicate feel.
The colours used are warm and bold, combining greens with yellows, oranges with purples and blues with fuchsias, occasionally softened by the odd hint of black and white.
Costume jewellery also took centre stage, punctuating the collection with strings of raffia flowers, perspex bracelets sparkling with strass or even art deco necklaces.
Chic and sophisticated, the men's collection displayed styles English public schools uniforms and the golden era of travel. This very masculine style plays with dress codes, associating formal wear with a casual look.
The section on the men's collection saw a model in creamy hues of white wearing a tapered jacket with piping in ottoman cotton, decorated with a crest sporting the LV initials. This was matched with bermuda shorts to add to a casual look. The model was also carrying an embossed caramel travel bag of the distinct LV monogram.
This was followed by a model wearing a cricket style pullover in cable knit cotton over a silk shirt with matching pants and carrying a teddy bear in monogrammed velvet. Knitwear conveys a very British touch to some of the silhouettes, breaking up formal wear and completes a relaxed look.
The ethnic spirit, associated with a very formal side, increases the eccentric side and the game of influences that are specific to the world of travel. This could be seen when a model wore a waistcoat and a pair of trousers worn with a scarf in hand-embroidered linen.
